Restoring the Laja WatershedRock by RockIn January 2001 the project to rehabilitate the watershed began in earnest. Within the first year 779 structures were built. These rock dams (usually about one or two feet high) catch sediment and slow down the water runoff, while allowing the water to tricle through. Men, women, teenagers and even young school children helped with the work. In 2002 we estimate twice as many structures will be built. Restoration Sites
